The Merkava (Chariot) Mk.1 tank is the first Israel Defense Forces (IDF) designed and produced Main Battle Tank (MBT). THe Mk.1 is the first generation in this great series fitted with a front mounted engine and transmission. The Merkava Mk.1 is also equiped with the 105mm main gun, the same that was installed in the later Merkava Siman 2, as well as the Magach (Patton) and Shot-Cal (Modified Centurion) fleets.
